There is plenty to do in L.A.  Opportunities are everywhere.  Let’s take a look at some options for things to do in the Los Angeles area.

Los Angeles Zoo

The LA Zoo is located within Griffith Park, and more than 1,200 animals call it home.  Conservation programs active in the zoo help to save animals from extinction.  The zoo provides and interesting learning experience for kids of all ages.

Griffith Park

Griffith Park is one of the largest city parks in the nation.  There is so much contained within the park, you can’t do it all in a day!  With a 70-mile collection of trails for walking, hiking, and horseback riding, you’ll be guaranteed to get all the exercise you want.  Behind the Park Ranger station, you can rent a bicycle, and pedal through the park.

Swimming

Go to the Recreation Center and swim in “The Plunge” pool during the Summer season.

Rides

Take a train ride or a pony ride.  If you’re not feeling that adventurous, the Merry-Go-Round is open on the weekends.

Sports

There are four golf courses and three tennis complexes in Griffith Park.  Catch a soccer game at the John Ferraro Athletic Fields.

Bronson Caves

While you’re hiking in Griffith Park, be sure and check out the Bronson Cave trail.  This trail is suitable for all experience levels, and contains a cool cave. The cave here was actually the “Batcave” in the Batman TV series from the 1960’s.

Greek Theatre

The Greek Theatre is an outdoor Amphitheatre that is located within Griffith Park.  It holds 5,800 people and has great acoustics.  It attracts big name acts that love the venue under the stars.

Travel Town Transportation Museum

This train museum features a mini train ride that circles around the museum.  Learn about railroads in Sothern California and the role they played in history.

Autry Museum of the American West

Round out your trip to Griffith Park with a trip to the Autry Museum of the American West.  Learn about the history of this part of the country, and the different people that played a part in what itis today.  Examine artifacts and pieces of art that help you understand this significant era.

Golf

If golf is your game, you’ve come to the right place.  L.A. boasts the world’s largest municipal system of golf courses.  With 20 to choose from, you can select from beautiful views of the mountains or the sea, or somewhere in between.  Rates will be surprisingly reasonable.

Parks

I’ll bet that you couldn’t guess that the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation maintains 182 parks!  Local parks have everything to offer, including playgrounds, special programs, team sports, and fitness classes, including swimming.

Community Regional Parks are bigger with organized sports, playing fields, and walking trails.

Regional Parks includes lakes where you can fish and go boating and swimming.  Hike the hiking trails, or go bicycling or horseback riding.
